Track and Field

Track and Field practice starts around the first of March, with practice continuing through mid May, when the regular season ends. Meets commence on/about the first Saturday in April. Meets are on Saturdays, starting at 8:30 a.m. continuing until around 3:00 p.m. The Track season usually runs until mid May, followed by post-season meets. A season end Pacer picnic is around the first weekend in June.

Gremlins (see Age Groups) practice on Monday and Thursday evening. All other age groups practice on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week. During the month of March, before the meets get underway, all groups also practice on Saturday mornings, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. It is on these Saturdays that we will also schedule such things as uniform issuance, team pictures and other housekeeping matters. Parents and athletes should check the Schedule regularly to keep up on current events. Weekday practices are from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. All practices are at Granada Hills High School (Zelzah south of Devonshire).

Normally the first couple of weeks of practice are group practice, with athletes running together as a group with their peers. After the first few weeks, athletes may chose to pair off with their respective coaches to practice certain events (sprints, distance, jumps, etc.)

Each athlete needs to report to practice a minimum of two (2) nights per week, plus Saturdays. The more time the athlete puts into practicing, the better he/she will perform. The nights he/she practices depends on what events the athlete wants to work on. The coaches will help the athlete make this decision.
